Sulwhasoo Liquid Cleansing Foam Review VS. History Of Whoo Foam Cleanser Review

Introduction

  • Sulwhasoo Liquid Cleansing Foam
A cleansing foam leaving skin hydrated and looking radiant. Formulated with clarifying Korean Medicinal Herbs, this cleansing foam removes skin impurities and leaves skin hydrated and looking radiant. - Japanese Apricot hydrates while Dokudami soothes for soft, hydrated radiantly clean skin. - Rich, luxurious, non-stripping lathers effectively remove pore-clogging impurities without irritating the skin.
  • History Of Whoo Foam Cleanser
Gentle foaming cleanser contains natural herbal ingredients to create a rich, fine-textured lather. This replenishing cleanser gently removes facial grime, impurities and make up residue. Its highly concentrated and super moisturizing formula keeps the skin moist and supple and helps prevent dryness. [Gongjinhyang - A secret Royal court formula that presents heavenly skincare to empresses] Containing "Gonjinbidan" and "Wild ginseng Cordyceps sinensis". Gongjinhyang helps create a more attractive skin tone. Packaging

  alt
  • Sulwhasoo Liquid Cleansing Foam
Both packaging are very distinctively different. Sulwhasoo comes in a bottle and pump form and contains 200ml of the cleanser. You would need about 2-3 pumps each time.   Foam_Cleanser__30901_zoom
  • History Of Whoo Foam Cleanser
Whoo’s cleanser comes in a tube form and contains 180ml in comparison to Sulwhasoo. However, while the Sulwhasoo cleanser contains 20ml more, you would need about 2-3 pumps each time. With Whoo, you would only need about two pea size of product each time.

Texture

w1     Sulwhasoo’s cleanser is transparent ( slight yellowish teint ) gel while Whoo’s foam cleanser is a yellow white paste which has a pearly color to it.   The whoo foam paste is rather thick in texture, while Sulwhasoo’s has a serum like texture to it. However, compared to the Elisha Coy BB Cleanser which they both have similarities in texture, Elisha Coy’s BB Cleanser is more liquidy and spreads more easily on the face while the Sulwhasoo’s foam cleanser is thicker.   Sulwhasoo’s lather ( i wouldn’t use the word foam because the foaming is very light  and not very noticeable ) is light on the skin while Whoo’s lather is thick and rich in texture.

Foaming Power

w2 w3     Whoo’s foaming power is definitely more superior than Sulwhasoo. Both do not actually ‘foam’ that much but both creates this thick white lather ( Whoo’s lather is thicker and more apparent as seen in the photos ). Sulwhasoo’s whitish lather does disappear after a while that is why it isn’t very noticeable in the 2nd photo, while Whoo’s lather remains dense and thick.

Cleansing Power

w4 w5 w6 w7     Whoo’s cleansing power is also superior to Sulwhasoo. The photo explains it all !

Post – Cleaning Feeling

Both cleansers give very different post-cleaning feel to the face.     Sulwhasoo gives a more moist  and normal feeling after cleaning but the Whoo cleanser gives a very SQUEAKY clean feeling after cleaning. In fact, we usually hate this squeaky clean feeling which comes with a ‘pulling’ and dry feeling on the face. However with the Whoo cleanser, even though it gives a VERY squeaky clean feeling, it doesn’t ‘pull’ the skin and the skin doesn’t feel dry. You can really feel that your skin is very clean.     However, we were rather divided when it came to this. Half of us did not like that squeaky feeling because probably we were used to cream based cleansers and the other half loved the squeaky clean , yet non-drying after-feel it gives.     It really depends on your preference for this one. Unlike the Hada Labo cleanser which also gave the same sort of feeling like the Whoo cleanser, it left the face dry and tight. However with Whoo, it doesn’t give the dry , tight and pulling feel on your skin.     It is the first time we came across a cleanser which gives such a squeaky clean feeling yet not drying, and you can even hear the squeak if you glide your hands along your face after cleaning. This probably explains why the cleansing power of Whoo is more superior to Sulwhasoo.     Apparently, the cleansers of LG ( Whoo, OHUI ) all gives the same super squeaky clean feeling.

Conclusion

We made a mini table to sum things up, and the winner of each section will be marked with a heart!
Sulwhasoo History Of Whoo

Foaming Power Red heart
Cleansing Power Red heart
Post-cleaning feel Red heart
Scent Red heart
Price / Value for money Red heart
  • Packaging
We chose Sulwhasoo over Whoo because pumps are more hygenic than tubes and also convenient. All you have to do is pump and you can get started.
  • Texture
We preferred Whoo’s texture because it was more rich compared to Sulwhasoo’s gel like texture which was light
  • Foaming Power
Whoo’s foaming power was more powerful and created more lather compared to Sulwhasoo
  • Cleansing Power
Cleansing power of Whoo was also superior and you can feel that it cleans much better by the super squeaky feeling it gives after
  • Post Cleaning Feel
This was a half-half situation but Sulwhasoo won by 1 vote! However, both cleansers do not leave the skin dry and tight.
  • Scent
We also chose Sulwhasoo’s scent because it was more natural and had a very strong herbal smell which everyone here loves. It smells like the Sulwhasoo First Aid Serum. The Whoo cleanser has the typical scent of the Gongjinhyang basic line which can be very artificial and empowering. However, the scent is also very pleasant but can be a little too much at times.
  • Value For Money
Sulwhasoo won because it is slightly cheaper. Sulwhasoo costs around 26 – 36 USD for 200ml, while Whoo’s cleanser cost about 49 USD for 180ml !   This will be a general feel for our future Sulwhasoo – Whoo – Hannule – Sooryehan reviews, so leave some feedback of this review format , so we can change it on our next review !

    What a GREAT review!!!

I love Sulwhasoo’s Liquid Cleansing Foam, it leaves skin clean and the scent is great too! That’s weird it did not foam up a lot on your hands, when I cleanse my face with Sulwhasoo’s the foaming action was A LOT!!! Maybe you applied less water? or the foam calmed down? haha

I have not tried the Whoo Gongjinhyang Foam Cleanser yet, I think I will since I love squeaky clean (I love how rich the product looks), and it helps absorb products better in my experience. I wish the ingredients were available :( Usually in Korean.

    Thanks so much Hope :D

Hi Hope In A Blog!!! <3

Love your detailed review! Definitely keep it this way :)

I have to agree with you about the packaging – Sulwhasoo's is much more sanitary and easy to use!!! With Whoo's cleansers, the trouble of opening and closing, and sometimes even wasting when you squeeze the product and it gets all over the cap!

I love Whoo's cleansers because they do have a rich consistency, and although it does give the squeaky clean feeling – it does not dry your skin! Sulwhasoo's Liquid Foam Cleanser does actually foam quite well – a lot of water is necessary though! If you don't massage enough, the cleanser will 'disappear' haha. Whoo did a great job in cleansing the marks you made on your hands better!!!

Usually when foaming cleansers have a strong foaming action – you know it will lift all the nasties on the face! The tiny foam particles reaches and lifts the dirt and impurities that hidden on the skin. Whoo does a great job at foaming up!!! :)

The great thing is that both cleansers don't contain any SLS!

Keep up the great reviews!!! :D

    Hi Hope,
did you get the Whoo Gongjinhyang cleansing foam via an ebay seller? If so, that could explain why the price is so expensive. I paid only around $26 (US dollars) at the airport in Seoul-Incheon for the foam, and that is after duty-free. Even with taxes in the counters in Seoul, I think that the foam is not as expensive as $49.

Hi yes i bought it for around 25usd on gmarket, but those prices up there are the ebay/online store prices. Will update the price with the gmarket prices and korean retail prices
