The packaging is pretty standard Laneige packaging. They’re not made of glass, but plastic. I quite like the metal sphere top of the toner, which i thought was pretty cool and i thought that the toner’s dispenser was that : but no! haha. It was just a part of the design. Good thing that the emulsion comes in a pump! And thank god they’re made using plastic bottles as they’re already quite heavy! Production date is printed below the bottles.

Texture

The toner is a real toner in it’s sense. Unlike most Korean toners which are thicker and gel-like in texture, this toner is very liquid so be careful when you’re pouring it out. I usually pour more than i need to. I think the toner is like it’s name : it’s light and refreshing.

The emulsion on the other hand was a let down for me. Even though it’s called Balancing Emulsion Light, it doesn’t feel that way. Even though the texture is very spreadable and feels moist, it feels rather heavy on the skin and definitely doesn’t have that light refreshing feeling.

It also takes a really long time to absorb, and just sits on your skin. You’ll definitely have to put in effort into massaging it into the skin. That aside, it really hydrates the skin without leaving any stickiness to it.

It basically stayed that way even after 8 hours, so i didn’t bother taking any photos. The oil content here is extremely low i guess.

Conclusion

As you can see from above on the right cheek where i have pores problem, the pores became smaller and hydrated after applying the toner and emulsion. For me, the better product here is definitely the Skin Refiner. It is actually one of the better toners i’ve used out there. It’s really light, refreshing and really absorbs easily into your skin and plumps it up immediately. Your skin also feels really soft after applying the toner. I’d totally recommend this toner if you’re looking for something inexpensive for your ‘lotion masks’.

Note that the Laneige series have gone through many upgrades and renewals throughout the years. This is the latest edition ( before that it was called EX 1/2/3 etc.. ). Laneige has also changed their logo recently :

After doing some research online, it’s no surprise that the Skin Refiner is actually one of Laneige’s Best Seller. There is a reason that the toner is a best-seller , as the best sellers of any brands would usually be a cream / sleeping pack / mask / serum / special treatment products. It really is nice to use, other than the scent of it which can be rather empowering and strong.

The emulsion on the other hand, is not really a winner. Although it hydrates well – it doesn’t live up to it’s Light name. It feels quite heavy on the skin, not light and refreshing. I wouldn’t use the word ‘heavy’ but it definitely doesn’t feel light. You can feel that there’s something sitting on top of your skin. It also doesn’t absorb very well. I’m sure that Laneige will be changing it’s formulation soon enough. I would pick a different emulsion to use together with the wonderful skin refiner.

After using it for 2 weeks, i did notice a slight that my skin was less oilier than it usually is. It also makes it soft, but the gold standard of any hydration line is always the Su:m37 Water Full line, and the Laneige combo is nowhere near there yet! Smile This Laneige duo would probably be suitable for those living in tropical countries where the weather is hot and humid. It definitely wouldn’t be enough for those experiencing winter right now.
