History Of Whoo Brightening Cleansing Foam Review

Wow, it’s been a super long time since the last review – i’ve been really busy with other stuff and i refuse to do a review that isn’t complete and detailed – hence the long absence! Getting right back at it.

The History Of Whoo Brightening Cleansing Foam is the cleansing foam from the infamous History Of Whoo Seol Whitening line.

The official description :

Gongjinhyang:Seol Brightening Cleansing Foam

A snow-white herb extracts foam cleanser that adds transparency to your skin. While the rich and fine foam of the water-soluble cleanser thoroughly removes impurities and sebum even from the skin's pores, its oriental medicine-based 'Chilhyangpalbaeksan' ingredients help keep the skin moist and clear.

With The History of Whoo's Brightening Cleansing Foam you can protect your skin from damage caused by dirt, grease, and pollutants you come in contact with in your daily activities. Frequently cleansing with this herbal foam skin care product will prevent any further harm to your complexion. Brightening Cleansing Foam is part of the well known Asian skin care product line by The History of Whoo, and will help fight the look of aging by restoring your skin to its natural look, clear of clogged pores.

[Gongjinhyang:Seol - Mild royal court whitening to keep skin fair and clear]

'Chilhyangpalbaeksan' and mother chrysanthemum extract have been added to protect the skin and enhance the internal functioning of the skin to provide care for concealed spots as well as skin dullness. It is an Oriental medicine-based whitening line for the fundamental resolution of skin problems.

Direction: Wet the face, apply a sufficient amount of the product, and lather. Gently massage the entire surface of the face and rinse thoroughly with warm water.

The packaging of the cleanser is the epitome of CLASS and ELEGANCE. It’s so beautifully designed and packaged and it just screams to be an addition to your bathroom. It’s just so beautiful… with the metal screw cap carved with Chinese designs. The design and packaging describes the cleansing foam : purity and brightening.

A new full size product will have a silver foil at the opening… so if you don’t see it – the product has been used! The production date is also printed right at the top of the tube – so don’t mistake it for the expiration date.

I’d rather prefer a pump for convenience, but this product wouldn’t work with a pump because the cleanser is concentrated.

Texture & Scent

The cleanser has a sort of like gluey-white concentrated texture as you can see from above. Not the typical liquid foaming cleanser texture.

Let me first state that i am a huge fan of the History Of Whoo Seol scent. It’s not as fake and empowering as the Whoo Gongjinhyang Basic Line. The foam cleanser also has the same scent of the entire line – the scent of chinese medicinal herbs definitely dominates and smells very therapeutic and refreshing.

Foaming Power

In the videos, you can see that it doesn’t foam like crazy that the Japanese foam cleansers usually does, but the foam here is very rich, fine and creamy. You can see the how fine the foam is on the second video. The foam will leave your entire face white, as if you’re putting on a mask, and i would usually put it on for 5 minutes while i go on doing other stuff like brushing my teeth, etc. The foam is water-soluble so it washes off easily when rinsed with water.

Cleansing Power

The cleansing power here is not too bad. I applied BB Cream + Eye Liner + Permanent Marker Ink on my hands and it managed to wipe everything off except a hint of the permanent marker can be seen after cleansing.

Like all Whoo cleansers – they give you this really squeaky clean feeling after cleansing – and you’ll feel that everything has been washed off. and the best thing is that it doesn’t leave your skin tight and dry! However, with this cleanser, this doesn’t give you the super squeaky feeling – just squeaky enough – doesn’t feel tight and dry, but it neither feels moist. Just very clean. I really love this feeling!

The best thing about this cleanser after cleansing is that you’ll notice that brightening effect immediately. It really brightens up your skin tone

A perfect cleanser – 9.5 /10 !

It lathers well – producing rich & creamy foam. It brightens up your skin tone after cleansing without leaving it tight, dry and uncomfortable. It washes off very easily too. Absolutely my favourite cleanser at the moment! The price is rather pricey but you can get it for over 28,000 wons on Gmarket, therefore it’s quite affordable as 160ml can last you for a long time. Definitely worth it’s price – and i will definitely not hesitate to re-purchase it.

If you have oilier/combination skin, this will be more suitable for you. And if you have drier skin, the Whoo Jinyul Foam will be more suitable.

The Soo yeon cream is actually not as good as the Qi and Jin cream.

  • Zam

    how much is the price?

    • Anonymous

      about 20$ on gmarket

      • Tran_xgirl

can you tell me the name’shop or give me the link on Gmarket that u bought it. thanks.

        • hopeinablog

hi, sorry it was so long ago! there are many sellers selling this on gmarket anyway

  • nami

i love this..i have been using it for around 4 months and it has helped in lightening acne blemishes on my face

Having light-toned skin, I think that whitening is the last thing I would even think of. The Whoo Gongjinhyang Goon(for men) cleansing foam is not bad, but I think that its cleansing power is tailored more for oilier skin, and the generic Whoo Gongjinhyang or Jinyulhyang cleansing foam would be better for drier skin types or winter use. It’s getting quite dry here, and my skin is reacting with flushing…..uhhhh….this is a first…..I never had that even in Korea or Canada….

    • Anonymous

Same here in Paris. The weather is really cold and dry that even Jinyul isn’t rich enough for me!

      • Kevin Jang

I was just curious. How is the texture of the Jinyulhyang cleansing foam compared to the other foams? The Qi and Jin cream is quite good, and I bought one on the Korea Air flight to Seoul. Probably will get that again or the Sulwhasoo Firming cream for winter, since they work way way better than a few creams put together. The Japanese creams are not that good comparatively, since their ingredients are very basic.

        • Anonymous

The jinyul cleansing foam has a thick liquid texture, compared to the paste like texture of the whitening and gongjinhyang cleanser. therefore it foams much easier than the latter.

the sulwhasoo firming cream is too light for the harsh weather!

          • Kevin Jang

The Japanese creams are really not good for winter. I think Sulwhasoo Firming cream is actually good enough, but Coreana’s Bichui GaIn Da Yoon cream and Hannule Go Gyeol Jinaek cream are by far better.

          • Kevin Jang

VoV Espair Snail Ampoule Cream is quite nice for the fall weather here. I would recommend that you try it.

  • Lingy

Sorry to see it has Myristic Acid as 2nd ingredient; it is well known to be comedogenic :( but the packaging looks so pretty!!

hehe, so far i don’t think anyone has had any troubles while using this cleanser! for me, i didn’t cause any problems too.
