Battle of the Sun powders : OHUI VS SU:M37

Introduction

Summer is coming along and it’s all about sun products and whitening products! This is a review of two very famous sun powders, both by LG brands : OHUI and SUM37. I purchased both items on GMARKET.

  • Su:m37 Sun Away Baked Essence

This powder-type sun block supplies moisture to the exhausted skin. You can re-apply this sun block anytime.

This is sunblock powder which is called an essence powder because it also contains the benefits of an essence together with the powder. The new baked powder sun block can be applied regularly on the make up without causing the powder to spead in the air.The powder contains woodapple elements which have been used for about 2000 years in Myanmar to aid the cooling of the skin ( caused by intense sun rays ), contraction of the pores and adjusts the levels of water and oil.

Serves as a functional make up with high sun protection SPF 50 / PA +++. Brightens the skin and provides moisture without clogging pores or causing skin problems. No addition of artificial fragrance, artificial colouring, and synthetic preservatives.

Although i found the Su:m37 packaging much more beautiful and elegant compared to the OHUI, the OHUI definitely wins in terms of portability as it is easy to bring anywhere you go and compact ! The OHUI Sunpowder comes in a small round bottle which has a slide-out mirror at the bottom! The box also comes with a changeable puff. I do not really like the puff here as i felt it was a little hard, so
i usually use a brush.

The Su:m37 wins in terms of packaging. It’s beautiful, elegant, and eye catching. Carved in the shape of a shell, the Sum37 comes with also a mirror and an extra puff. The puff here is definitely MUCH better than the OHUI. In fact it is one of my favourite puffs. It’s realllly soft and feels so soft and smooth to use on the face. Definitely a pleasure to use! The mirror here is also double the size of the OHUI!

As you can see, they both have very different shades and kind-of-different texture. The OHUI powder comes in a beige shade, which is very close to the asian skintone shade. Coverage is very sheer. The Sum37 powder has a white-pinkish shade which automatically brightens up the skin tone.

While i was waiting for both powders to give me that white cast, they didn’t ! I expected the Su:m37 to give me a white cast finish because of it’s colour, but after a few minutes, it was hardly noticeable and gave a very nice radiant healthy glow at the end. In terms of coverage, the OHUI powder has higher coverage though it is very sheer and also hardly noticeable. They both blend very well into the skin, and are hardly noticeable.

In terms of texture, the OHUI Sun Powder was definitely much more dry compared to the Sum37 powder which was more moist and less drying. The OHUI Sun Powder is excellent in absorbing excess sebum and is perfect for those with oily and combination skin! It really kept my skin matte for the whole day and whenever you feel that there’s an oil spill on your face, just touch up with this powder to absorb the excess oil and prevent future excess oil secretion.

Here are some photos to show you how the powders leave a very natural bright finish :

I placed the powders in two cups of water, then mixed it with a chopstick to see it’s reaction with water. The powder stayed on top even after stirring vigorously it stayed on top of the water ( Waterproof ) . The water was still crystal clear clean even after stirring. Excellent ! No need to worry about melting it with your sweat!
