Pricing

SunnySide Dr Skin BB – 105,000 wons / 50ml

Dr Lab Cell Perfection Repair Balm – 83,000 wons / 50ml

Dr Lab Protective Recovery Balm – 83,000 wons / 50ml

Both are high end BB Creams. Although cheaper than the famous SunnySide VIP BB Cream, the Dr Skin is still relatively expensive. Malaysia is very lucky as the BB Cream is sold for almost half the price as it is sold in Korea. This is the first time that i’ve seen something sold cheaper in Malaysia than in South Korea itself – so it’s actually very affordable to purchase it at Shins ( we are discussing to see if they will provide a discount code ). The Dr Lab Cell Perfection Repair Balm retails at RM129 ($41) , and the other retails at RM119.

Packaging wise, all of them are similar except that the Dr Skin comes with a screw cap which can be rather inconvenient as you have to screw and unscrew, while with the Dr Lab, you will just need to flip the lid. All 3 have very minimum design and packaging, with the Dr Lab being a little more pleasing to the eyes. All 3 have similar size. Another downside of the Dr Skin packaging is that it is rather hard to control the amount of BB that comes out, so i have to be very careful , or spat, a huge slab comes out.

In terms of texture, the Dr Skin has the most fluid texture, and the easiest to work with. The Dr Lab CPB ( Cell Perfection Balm ) has the same texture than the Dr Skin but slightly thicker. I have a preference for balmy BB Creams, and the Dr Lab PRB is the balmiest of them all. However it sure doesn’t look so on the photos. It isn’t as balmy as the AHC, but once you spread it on your skin, you can feel it’s balmy texture.

In terms of shade, the Lab PR has the brightest and lightest shade compared to the Dr Skin and Lab CP. The Dr Skin and Lab CP are actually very similar in texture and shade, the Dr Skin having a lighter texture and also a brighter shade. They both also have the same greyish pinkish undertone to them, while the Lab PR has the most vibrant colour. The Lab PR would only be suitable for those with fair skin but the other two would be suitable for a wider skin tone. After blending them nicely, all three looks natural on the skin, and brightens up your skin tone.

The Dr Skin also has the most moist texture compared to the other two. It is not creamy and rich like the Crazy Monkey d’Argan BB Cream but it has more of a moist texture.

Coverage

They all have above average coverage. The Dr Skin provides the most natural coverage, then followed by the Dr Lab CP and the one with the best coverage is the Lab PR. The Dr Lab PR has perfect coverage which is reallly good BUT you do have to be careful with it as a small amount can go a long way. As it is balmy, it is also the hardest to spread, and it highly pigmented,

Oil Test

The Dr Skin showed the most oil content – that was probably why it felt the most hydrating and moist. As usual, the Lab PR had the least as most of the balmy BB Creams have lower oil content. The Lab PR also had really good oil control properties compared to the other two.

Water Test

As you can see here, the Dr Skin didn’t do well in the water test. The other two Dr Lab BB Creams scored better and even survived the oil cleansing test while the Dr Skin was destroyed by the oil cleansing test. This proves that the Dr Lab BB Creams has better adhesion compared to the Dr Skin. Amongst the two Dr Lab BB Creams, the Lab PR performed slightly better than the Lab CP.

To further proove their adhesion, i rubbed them on artificial leather as they resemble human skin. I used cellophane tape the first time to see their adhesion power. Secondly, i rubbed oil on the 2nd cellophane tape to mimic the skin’s natural sebum to see if it had effect on the adhesion of the BB Creams. At the end, i took a tissue paper and tried rubbing the BB Creams off the entire artificial leather.

From the last photos you can see that the LAB PR has the best adhesion. Even after rubbing vigorously with tissue, there are still some BB marks. The Dr. Skin was the easiest to rub off.

Ingredients

  • Sunnyside Dr Skin

Ingredient list printed entirely in Korean.

It contains anti-aging powerhouse ingredient Co-enzyme Q10.

Co-enzyme Q10 has two important roles: it is an essential part of the cellular respiration system located in the mitochondria, and it is an antioxidant. CoQ10 improves both the rate and efficiency of energy production in the cells, including the skin and at the same time protects mitochondria from free radicals. CoQ10 is sometimes called a “biomarker of aging” because its level correlates so well with aging.

In most people over thirty, levels of CoQ10 in the skin is below optimum, resulting in a lesser ability to produce collagen, elastin and other important skin molecules. CoQ10-depleted skin may also be more prone to the damage by free radicals, which are particularly abundant with exposure of the skin to the elements. Thus, CoQ10 may boost skin repair and regeneration. Furthermore, CoQ10 is a small molecule that can relatively easily penetrate into skin cells.

It also contains Caviar extracts – which became famous after Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt found them essential in keeping her skin firm and radiant. Caviar extract supports the repair and the defence mechanisms of the skin, regulate the skin’s moisture levels and ‘normalise’ the skin’s water-soluble vitamins and minerals.

On top of that, it also contains green tea, chamomile, allantoin and bisabolol. One of the reasons it is cheaper than the SunnySide is due to the fact that it does not contain EGF.

Almost all BB Creams have high silicone content – so i’m not gonna talk about it. This BB Cream is paraben-free, talc free, mineral oil free, fragrance free. Unlike the other Dr Lab BB Cream, it doesn’t have any SPF. The ingredient list is rather clean if you take the silicones out with a good number of beneficial extracts for the skin.

  • Dr Lab Protective Recovery Balm

BB Cream : Sunnyside Dr Skin Complete VS Dr Lab

Priced at RM10 less than the Cell Perfection, this BB Cream isn’t paraben free. It is however talc free, mineral oil free, and fragrance free. It contains SPF 30. It also contains anti-acne properties here and you can see quite a number of beneficial ingredients for the skin here. It uses phtyoncide water. Phytoncide means the natural antibiotic substance that trees and plants radiate into the air to protect themselves from the harmful insects or micro-organism. It is a compound Greek word for ‘plant ‘(Phyton) and ‘kill’ (cide) that it is a name for entire sterilization substance from the plants. It also uses the patented, Selemix AN, a powerful anti acne ingredient which is also used in Dr Jart’s Acne X line. Not forgetting this has a whopping 2% of Arbutin!

  1. I wonder if you ever compared korean bb cream and one made by western brand ?
For egz, Estee Lauder Cyber White EX Extra Intensive BB Cream and The History of Whoo Luxury BB Cream looks quite similar to me, but of course I never tested them like you do

  2. haha both are quite different, one uses oriental herbs, one uses modern stuff. we have reviewed the estee lauder BB Cream already !

  3. Well, I didn’t mean their indredients, only how they both look on my face and fingers XD but you’re right stuff they use is most likely very different
Oh, I probably missed that review
But it would be really interesting to see western and asian bb cream performance compared to each other (it doesn’t have to be Estee Lauder)
