Battle Of the Makeup artist BB Creams : Bobbi Brown VS Vidi Vici

Today i will be comparing two BB creams. The most obvious fact is that one is an asian BB Cream, and one is a western BB Cream. But what some may fail to see is that both BB Creams are brands that come from celebrity make-up gurus!

  • Vidi Vici BB Cream

For those of you who are not familiar Vidi Vici, it is a cosmetic brand by korean celebrity makeup guru, Lee Hyung Min. This brand is a premium brand… and the products are not cheap at all !! Their most famous product is the Perfect Refininf Foundation which won Best Foundation last year at the Allure Korea and Get It Beauty Awards.

They both have different packaging and no doubt here that the Vidi Vici (VD) packaging is the winner. It is solid, simple, classier than the Bobbi Brown packaging. The Bobbi Brown packaging is actually nice too. It’s long and slender and easier to carry around but i had one big problem with it : the tube was too flimsy and flabby. I would have preferred if the Bobbi Brown (BB) tube was a little more solid and firm. It was much harder to dispense the BB BB compared to the VD BB because of this default. It’s kind of like when you’re using a toothpaste and halfway, you’ll have to start squeezing the tube from the top slowly down to the bottom to dispense the toothpaste. It was the same way for this BB Cream. Thank god the opening is small so the amount of BB Cream that comes out can be controlled easily.

With the VD BB, all you need to do is press the bottle, and the BB Cream comes out. It is also easy to control the amount of BB that comes out compared to the BB BB.

Texture

IMAG0580

As you can see, the texture of the VD BB Cream is more liquid and more spreadable compared to the Bobbi Brown BB Cream which is creamier and more like a paste ( somewhere in between – not as concentrated as the 1st generation BB creams )

Both BB Creams are easy to blend into the skin. The VD BB Cream is slightly more balmy and greasy in texture in comparison to the BB BB. The BB BB leaves quite a matte finish on the skin and is quite apparent if you have flakes, dry patches on your skin – so make sure you moisturize your skin properly if you have drier skin! The VD BB Cream is more emollient and richer. Both of them leave a glow to your face – but it is more more obvious with the VDVC BB Cream as this is the trend in Korea at the moment.

Shade

Here are some swatches :

The two BB Creams also have very different tones. The VDVC BB Cream has the typical greyish pinkish , leaning more towards pinkish and the greyish undertone isn’t very apparent. The BB BB Cream has a warm yellow undertones like most Western and Japanese BB Creams. My BB BB Cream is the Light Shade which is the middle shade.

The yellow tones in the BB BB Cream is quite apparent – so if your skin looks funny with yellow undertones – please get a sample of this first !

Compared the BB BB Cream with the other western BB Creams on the market at the moment :

Oil Test

IMAG0617

The BB Creams were tested for 18 hours. The oil content in both BB Creams are average, not too high, not too low. The VDVC BB Cream has more oil content which corresponds well to its texture.

Coverage

IMAG0595

Both of them have low-medium coverage although the VDVD BB Cream coverage is better compared to the BB BB Cream. The BB BB Cream, like most western BB Creams, are actually more like makeup primers or base. They have low coverage just enough to even out your skin tone. This works if you already have near perfect or perfect skin, but if you don’t they just act as makeup bases as the BB BB Cream hardly covers anything except makes your pores look a little less obvious!

Water Test & Adherence

So, both went through the water test to test the BB Cream adherence as well as how they react to water? Are they going to melt together with your sweat ? How long is it going to last on your test. The BB Creams were placed under running water ( hot and cold ) for 5 minutes.

IMAG0593

As you can see, it did wipe off a big part of the BB BB Cream. The adherence is further proven below :

IMAG0582

BB Creams were placed on the back of my hand, sprayed with water, and wiped it off with tissue. As you can see, the Bobbi Brown BB adherence is poorer than the VDVC – but compared to other BB Creams i’ve seen – their performance is considered above average!

Both BB Creams are similar : they are both by make-up artists, they both have sheer low coverage, same SPF factor and price. The big difference lies in their shades and texture. I gave hearts on the shade factor for both BB Creams because while the BB BB Cream looks nice under yellow light, the tone is quite apparent under natural sunlight while the VDVC BB Cream looks better under natural sunlight.

One would expect the BB BB Cream to be better suited for normal to dry because of it’s balmy and more concentrated texture, but this BB Cream is actually more for those with oily and combination skin. The VDVC BB Cream is more suited for those with normal-dry skin as it is more emollient and richer which contains a variety of oils to provide nutrients for the skin although the texture is runnier and more liquid than the BB BB Cream. The VDVC’s glow and dewiness is also more apparent and provides better coverage than the BB BB Cream which is more of a makeup base / skin tone corrector.

Fragrance wise – like most Korean cosmetics – they contain fragrance but the smell isn’t too over empowering or anything, so no worries! The Bobbi Brown BB Cream doesn’t contain any fragrance!

So who’s the winner here? I do feel that both BB Creams are good BB Creams , they both shine in their own ways and it only depends on your preferences on textures and shades to decide which is for you. Both BB Creams aren’t cheap either at $50 at 40ml, and I’d rather spend the money on the Liz K Color Veil which costs only $33 which is superior in all sectors– or if you like something with a sheer coverage – the Stila BB Cream is a pretty good buy too! But if these BB Creams you must – it is Hope In A Blog approved! Smile
