Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream & Coreana Senite BB Cream Review

Introduction

  • Etude House Precious Mineral BB Cream #3 ( Sheer Flawless Skin )

This BB Cream has the darkest shade of the other two, so make sure you pick your shade properly.

Packaging

There’s no surprise here… the Senite BB wins in terms of packaging. Though both having similar packaging, the Senite has a much more refine and attractive packaging. It is smaller in size and more portable compared to the big and clumsy Etude House BB. Not to mention the pump hole of the Senite is smaller and therefore it is easier to control the amount of BB Cream that is released.

Colour / Shade & Texture

Under natural sunlight :

The Etude House BB Cream had a reaaaally dark shade that it was such a turn off. It was almost like chocolate. The Senite BB Cream on the other end had a brighter which would probably match Shade 1 or 2 of the Etude House BB. So don’t make the same mistake of purchasing this for wanting to look ‘natural’ because the shade is really dark and will not make you look any ‘natural’.

Texture wise both have very liquid-y texture that spreads easily and smoothly on the skin. The only difference here is the formation of water droplets with the Senite BB Cream. When you rub the BB Cream, water droplets will form to give the BB Cream a more moist texture (photo below )

Coverage

In terms of coverage, the Etude House wins. The Etude House BB is actually very pigmented and if not used wisely, it can even give you a cakey finish. Its fluid texture spreads the BB easily on the skin therefore you just need a little pea size of the BB Cream as the BB Cream is very pigmented. I do see why the Etude House BB Cream is so successful commercially : it has a nice fluid texture, is very pigmented and has an above average coverage for a BB Cream. The coverage is also buildable, but can look cakey if not applied with care.

Oil Test

Photo taken after 24 hours. Both of them did all right, but the Senite BB Cream has less oil content compared to the Etude BB.

Oxidation Test

Over here, you can see that there is quite a big difference in terms of shade colour. The Senite BB Cream became a few shades darker after 8 hours. There is also a slight difference between the Etude BB but the change is not as drastic as the Senite BB Cream.

Adherence

The before – after photo after washing them with running water. As you can see, the Etude House adheres better to the skin compared to the Senite which washed off easily. However, i’ve seen much worse .. so both of them are pretty good in terms of adherence, but the Etude House is better.

Both BB Creams are above average BB Creams for their price range. I understand the commercial success of the Etude House BB Cream – it’s cheap, the coverage is excellent, light spreadable texture. The Coreana Senite BB Cream is harder to get though can be easily found on Ebay but lacks in coverage and ideal for those looking for a sheer coverage. It’s water droplet system is either a love it or hate it as the water droplets do make the BB Cream harder to blend.

Have you tried both BB Creams? How do you like them?

    Hi Hope…

I owned and tried etude only once BB magic cream, i think it comes only with 1 shade. For me it oxidized quite fast, coverage not so much but its okay for me coz i dont need much coverage. But… What put me off about this product and made me only used it once is.. Gosh… I did take a look on the ingredients quite much lateee…. There are so many paraben there and few not good ingredients there…. Phewww…. Im still thinking should i just throw this to the trash can or this still worth keeping ???

    • hopeinablog

i think thats quite an old Bb cream. etude house has upgraded the formulation with this range of BB Creams! well you can try mixing it around with your other BB creams to see if it can be used in other ways… if not, give it away to someone!

  • Caty

I have the Etude BB cream in shade 1 and was surprised with how good it was. It didn’t oxidize much and was a great match for my fair Caucasian skin. I know you’re very busy but I always look forward to your product reviews!

Also, I bought the Skin79 Dear Rose and Rose Vanilla Scandal and interestingly the RVS was a bit lighter. Did they intentionally reformulate it so the Korean version would be lighter?

    • hopeinablog

yes i would think so because the Dear Rose is also for the SEA market, and they are generally a little darker compared to the koreans whom are generally very fair

      • Caty

Ah, I figured as much. If you’re interested I can submit comparison swatches. I have a bunch of skin care ingredients I also need to take pictures of and submit (long overdue).

I’m using Snail BB cream from Mizon, I love the texture of it much better than handful of other bb creams~ however, it doesn’t really cover my acne~ i wonder if you could do any review on Snail bb creams~ my skin somehow likes snail extract line

    • hopeinablog

sorry i dont have much snail bb creams. only the holika holika and it’s skin !

  • Sumiko

I have tried samples of Etude House BB cream, but in light shade. I loved everything about this bb cream: the coverage, finish, lasting power and color match until it gave me a major breakout after about 4 days of using it.
So disappointing! I am gutted :(

    • hopeinablog

ouch! thank god my skin isn’t sensitive so i def had not had any breakouts with any bb creams!
